David M. Zimmer, Clinical Director
David is a licensed psychotherapist specialized in working with children, teens, adults, and families.
He has a graduate degree in mental health counseling from Hunter College and has received training in a variety of clinical settings including private medical centers, community agencies, school-based mental health centers, and college counseling centers. Licensed to practice in both New Jersey and the state of New York, David enjoys working with individuals both virtually and in-person in our Livingston office. Prior to becoming a psychotherapist, David earned a bachelor's degree from New York University and a masters degree in international relations from American University in Washington, DC.
David’s approach to therapy has been informed by extensive training in a variety of modalities that are neuro-biologically informed, based on attachment science, and incorporate an understanding of the body-brain connection. David has received training in brainspotting, emotionally focused therapy, and internal family systems, among others. David’s approach is also informed by an extensive study of meditation, yoga and eastern philosophy which he received while living in India.
Prior to beginning his career in counseling, David was a Presidential Management Fellow and a civil servant in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs in the United States Department of State. David has lived in and traveled to over 30 countries and is a fluent Spanish speaker. David’s diverse work and travel experience has allowed him to better appreciate the diversity of the human experience and has enhanced his ability to connect with individuals from a wide range of cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds in a supportive and empathetic manner.
